London, after work one night.
Winter, ‘28
Quenching thirsts, sating appetites
With Alice, Tom, and Kate.
Kate was buzzed
When Tom told her
I was
A teetotaler.
She tossed her hair back,
Took a sip;
And a smirk crossed
Her lips.
Kate went off to buy a round.
She brought me back a coke.
Winking, I just quaffed it down.
That’s when I awoke.
Outside ‘neath a streetlight
Kate laughing “Now you’re in the club!”
That was my last quiz night
At the White Horse Pub.
They left me
On Piccadilly
lying face down in a shrub.
That was my last quiz night
At the White Horse pub.
